Privacy policy

Three things collect data here: analytics, one affiliate-click event, and the contact form. That is the whole list.

Who we are

Hoop & Hem ( hoopandhem.com ) is published by Slate Mill Group. Contact: info@hoopandhem.com.

What this site does not have

Worth stating first, because it removes most of what a privacy policy usually covers. There are no user accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comment system, no advertising network, no retargeting pixels and no third-party ad cookies. Nothing on this site asks you to create anything.

1. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which are not. It sets cookies and collects the standard analytics set: pages viewed, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and how long you stayed.

We use it to decide what to write next. We do not use it to identify individuals, and we have no interest in doing so.

Google’s handling of this data is governed by Google’s privacy policy. Browser settings, tracking-protection features and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on all block it, and nothing on this site stops working if you do.

2. The affiliate-click event

When you click a buy link, we send one analytics event recording that an affiliate link was clicked, which merchant it pointed at, the product identifier where we have one, and which page you were on.

It records no personal information. We need it because our buy links resolve through our own /go/ redirect, which analytics cannot see as an outbound click, and because Amazon reports earnings per tracking tag rather than per site. Without this event we would have no way to know which pages are useful.

How the links themselves work is described on the disclosure page.

3. Amazon

When you follow a link to Amazon, Amazon sets its own cookie so that a purchase can be attributed to us. That happens on Amazon’s side, under Amazon’s privacy notice, and we do not see it.

What we eventually see is aggregate: how many qualifying purchases were attributed to our tag. We never see who you are or what else was in your basket.

4. The contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive your name, your email address and your message. They are emailed to us and we keep the email so we can reply and, where you have reported a correction, so we have a record of it.

We do not add you to any list, because there is no list. We do not pass your details to anyone.

Anti-spam on the form

The form carries a hidden field real people never fill in, records when the page loaded so that submissions arriving in under three seconds can be rejected, and limits submissions per IP address per hour. These exist instead of a captcha, which means no third-party captcha script is running on this site and no tracking is happening on your visit for that purpose.

Hosting and logs

This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for operational and security purposes. See Vercel’s privacy policy.

Your choices

  • Block analytics with browser tracking protection, an extension, or Google’s opt-out add-on. The site works identically.
  • Do not click buy links, and no affiliate cookie is ever set.
  • Ask us to delete your contact message. Email info@hoopandhem.com and we will.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update it and change the date at the top. This version is dated 01/09/2026.
