How this site is funded

Amazon Associates commission, and nothing else. Here is exactly how that works and what it does not change.

The statement

Hoop & Hem is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

We earn a commission on qualifying purchases made through links on this site. It costs you nothing extra - the price you pay is the same as it would be if you had arrived at Amazon any other way.

What we are, and are not, part of

At the time of writing we are an Amazon Associate and only an Amazon Associate. We are not in any CJ or Awin program, and we do not build tracked links for programs we have not joined, however good their public terms look.

Our Amazon Associates tag is hoopandhem-20. If you see a link from this site carrying any other tag, it is not ours.

How the links actually work

Every product link on this site points at /go/ followed by a product key, rather than directly at a retailer. That resolver looks up the destination in a configuration file, adds our Associates tag, and forwards you with a temporary redirect.

Three consequences worth knowing:

  • Every earning link carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" and opens in a new tab, per Google’s link spam policy.
  • The /go/ resolver is noindex, nofollow, disallowed in robots.txt and excluded from our sitemap. There is nothing there for a search engine.
  • A click fires one analytics event recording that an affiliate link was clicked, which merchant, and which page it was on. That is how we know which pages are useful. It is described on the privacy page.

Where we do not have a link, and why we say so

True longarm quilting machines - Handi Quilter, Gammill, APQS, Innova, Bernina Q-series, Baby Lock longarms - are sold through authorized dealers and are not on Amazon. We checked every retail result for those brands on 1 September 2026 and every one was a dealer storefront.

So there is no buy button anywhere on this site for a longarm, and there will not be one. We cover the tier with real dealer-published prices and no link, because a “check price” button pointed at a search that cannot contain the machine is a dead end with a click target on it.

We earn nothing from that page. It exists because it answers the question.

What commission does not change

  • What we recommend. Picks come from published specifications and the arithmetic described on the methodology page. The commission rate on a machine is not one of the five criteria and never has been.
  • The order we rank things in. Where a cheaper machine is the better buy, it ranks higher, and that is frequently the case on this site.
  • Whether we say to skip something. Every roundup names at least one machine we recommend against, and every machine carries a “skip it if” line. Those are the pages that earn least and they are not going anywhere.

Prices

No price is written into any page here. Prices render from a live data layer, and when that layer holds nothing under 48 hours old, every button reads “check price” and sends you to the current listing.

Where a price is shown, it carries the date it was verified. Prices change constantly and a number written into an article is wrong within weeks.

What we do not accept

  • Sponsored placements or paid inclusion in any roundup.
  • Free machines, samples or loans from manufacturers or retailers.
  • Any arrangement where a brand sees content before it is published.

Those are all zero, and all three are the kind of zero where zero is the right number.

Questions

If anything on this page is unclear, or you think a link on this site is not behaving as described here, tell us or email info@hoopandhem.com.

Related: our editorial policy covers independence and corrections, and our privacy policy covers what the analytics event records.

The short version

We earn a commission if you buy through a link here. It costs you nothing extra. It does not change what we recommend or the order we rank things in.

Affiliate programs we are in: Amazon. That is the whole list.
